This is about the only game that is older than me as it dates all the way back to the Middle Ages! The game used to be called "Tarot" because it was first played with a Tarot card deck.  Origins of the game can be found in Italy and France (The aristocrats loved it there). The game eventually split into European baccarat and a French game called 'chemin de fer'.  Chemin de fer is very similar to baccarat as it's played in American casinos today. The only real difference in the games is that one of the players banks the game instead of the casino. The title of banker rotates around the table in a manner similar to the dice at a craps table. The casino operates this similar to a Texas Hold 'em poker game as they are not playing against a player but rather just taking a fee from the banker on each hand.

The baccarat we find in casinos today originated from the Great Britain version and was then passed along to the Americas. The  Dunes casino in Vegas is believed to be the first casino to offer baccarat in the late 50's.  Ever since then it has made its final migration onto the world wide web. Baccarat has enormous popularity overseas in the Far East as well where it is wildly popular.  In the casinos based in  Macao, which is near Hong Kong, the popularity of baccarat is unrivaled. Today, baccarat can be found on all the Captains casinos and is easy to learn and enjoy.  Although online casinos give the impression that baccarat is fer "Highrollers only," it is a game that anyone can master and enjoy.
